Giveitaway giveitaway giveitaway giveitaway Now

It's that fun time of year again, when Sew Mama Sew hosts Giveaway Day so we can all join together as one and try to win quilty stuff from all over blogland. The semantics side of me is always a little disturbed by the misnomer - since Giveaway Day lasts all week (until Friday at 5pm PST) it really should be called Giveaway Week, right? But that is just me being all grammatically annoying like I can be and just wanting to make sure you know that you have plenty of time to enter all the contests and even create one of your own on your blog if you like!

Big decision number one - what to give away? That's just easy. My lovely sponsor Lemon Tree Fabrics has graciously donated a $25 gift certificate to the cause. If you haven't visited their online shop, you really must. Adorbsballs whimsical prints, the latest modern basics and prints, and customer service that can't be beat!

Big decision number two - what silly question to ask you to answer in order to enter? Lucky for me, I have a whole list of slightly off the wall questions at the ready, as one of my regular features here at QHH is "The Hottie Hotseat," wherein I ask members of the quilting community (Julie from Lemon Tree happens to have been one!) to choose some questions from my list to answer so we get to know them on a personal and hopefully thoroughly entertaining level. (If you read Julie's you'll even get to see her actual online shop warehouse. You'll want to visit, but only I am allowed to do that.) I'm pulling one of my favorite questions off "The Burning Questions" document and asking you to answer it in the comments to be entered to win.

"What is your favorite part of your quilting studio? And what would you change about your studio if you could?"

Because you know we all have love/hate relationships with our creative spaces, I can't wait to hear what your own favorite elements are and how if you don't get out the sledgehammer and tear down that wall in the next six months you are going to go insane.

If you're looking for another giveaway opportunity, it just so happens that I am currently hosting my "Who Makes You Say Hubba Hubba" giveaway going on this week as well. I won't say more than that in this post as I don't want to get off topic or break the rules, but I'd hate to have you miss out on the fun if you forgot to scroll down!

Always scroll, hotties. It's our evil plan in blogland to keep you reading all evening and forget entirely to put the kids to bed.

Good luck and I hope to see you back here at QHH again.

I love my bins for keeping projects organized and out of the way. I would adire a taller cutting table. At six feet tall bending over to cut all day is painful.

auschick said...

My favorite part is that it's in the basement so I have lots of floor space. The downside is that there is no storage closets so everything is in staked up boxes and scattered all over the place!!

Angie said...

Can't say it is a studio as it is just a corner in my bedroom. My favorite part is my fabric storage on bookshelves. I would love to have an actual room dedicated to my quilting, sewing, and crafting.

Alexis said...

I love my fabric shelf but could seriously use more room and natural light.

Marti Taylor said...

I would love to have my own space. Right now I just have a small area in our bedroom. blackflowersacidrain(at)gmail(dot)com

wonderlandbyalyce said...

My quilting studio consists of my machine, cutting board, ironing board, etc all strategically placed on the tile floor of my bedroom, so first change I would make would be to actually get some sort of surface to work on. Would definitely help with some of my back problems. Thanks, wonderlandbyalyce@gmail.com

Sandra said...

Sewing studio? My sewing area is in a room with a bunch of computers. With my cutting table in the kitchen. My storage is the closet and the corner of the bedroom. Would so love to have the room for a studio.

Kat said...

I love my sewing desk. Wish I had a bigger design wall :)

Laura said...

I would have it not be in my living room so my ironing board could stay up all the time!

Unknown said...

i love the size of my studio... but i really need more shelves!

Tanya said...

I like that I have a sturdy table, ie the kitchen table. Thanks for chance to win.

Michele said...

I really need more space in my studio! My longarm frame takes up too much of the room but if I move it would have to be to the basement and I would lose all the beautiful natural light that comes in the windows. Next house I'm going to plan my space ahead of time.

Michele said...

Like many people here, I'd like more space so I didn't have to pack everything, like cutting tables, away all the time.

skyberries said...

Not really a studio. my nubby calls it the study but I'm slowly taking over! The best thing about it is the cabinet I keep my fabrics in, although I've nearly run out of shelves now... the thing i'd change? Move the 'study' out of my sewing room so I can fit in a cutting table!!!

Unknown said...

My favourite part is my stash on display. It's inspiring and beautiful, it's out of direct light but not in gloom, and it's always changing. What I really want to change/add is a drop-in quilting table. That would make me SOOOO happy

Jess Burns said...

I got a new cat and the two cats need to be separated right now, and that means that the little room I used for sewing (and had my keyboard, etc.) now belongs to the cat and I can't really use it any more. So I'm stuck using the kitchen!

I love that I actually have my own space, BUT I wish I had more of it. I only have a tiny room and I outgrew it before I moved into it. I want a proper sewing/cutting table too. Right now I use a dresser and a fold-up table.

Kris said...

My favorite part is the large oak desk that I work on. If I could have just a bit more storage it would make me happy. But a bigger room would be best!

Sewbig said...

I love the machines and supplies I have, but wish they were more organized. More and bigger windows would be really nice.

Patty Tardiff said...

The fact that I even have a sewing room is great. I just wish I had better lighting.

Kelly Wilson said...

My "studio" is a corner of my kitchen. Unfortunately I don't see much improvement in the future (except better storage so it isn't all out) because we live in an open loft. That means I also have 4 kitty assistants I can't lock out.But - so far so good. At least it is bright and sunny.

Nikita said...

Hmm I don't really have a sewing studio I usually have to pull everything out then completely take over the kitchen...but it is very bright in there so I do like that.

Sarah said...

The stained glass insert in the door is my favorite but I wish I had more space

AmandaK@whatthebobbin said...

I have to share a room with my Husband's office. It would be fantastic to have my own space. Sigh. Someday... thanks :)

supersara20 said...

I love the top of my dresser, it has a collection of my favorite things.

Taryn V. said...

My favorite part is my cutting table. I used to use a small folding table, so I really appreciate having all the space now. The thing I would change is the flooring. Carpet in a sewing room is madness!

Mending My Own said...

My biggest issue with my sewing space is me. I use it for a catch all: clean clothes waiting to be folded, kids artwork, mail, and my computer. I really need to work out spaces for this other stuff so I can get back to crafting regularly, without having to move a mountain of laundry.

Jenny said...

We are moving this weekend and I've yet to set up my new sewing room. But I'm already in love with the full wall to house my design wall. Not enough wall space in my current house. I would love more windows though..never enough light.

Anonymous said...

Sewing studio???? What's that? I would love to have one but I sew at my dining room table and would love to have more room. My whole back wall is nothing but windows so I have plenty of natural light.

Jolien said...

I'd love to have a cutting table, my sewing spot is now partly in the office and partly in the living room where I cut fabric. And I'm way messy, meaning, I have a messy living room as well...

Or maybe I should put my stuff away more often, that might help too...

selleck said...

I love the selection of fabric I have acquired. I wish I had more shelves.

Kayla Yapuncich said...

Thanks for the chance! I love my sewing room because it's HUGE. But it's in the basement so I don't get any natural light, which I kind of hate...

SilverCat said...

My favourite part? The giant table. My least favourite part? The fact that its actually the dining table and therefore needs to be cleared off periodically!

Pamela said...

I was sad when my daughter went off to college, but the consolation is that I turned her room into a real sewing studio! My favorite part of the room is a gallery wall of small wallhangings I've made or acquired through swaps. The thing I'd like to change is the size of the room. I'd love more space. Thanks for the chance to acquire more fabric! And thanks for your inspiring blog. And I love Syncopated Ribbons!

Anonymous said...

hahaha, my 'studio' is "where is the sewing machine this time? I need to make/fix something"...

MrsV said...

My favourite part is having one. We just bought a house, and I finally don't have to keep everything in the closet and then get it out on the dining room table when I want to sew. However, the layout needs a good overhaul. I can barely get around in there right now and I'm constantly blocking my own light.

Welcome to the Glorious Chaos! said...

My favorite part of my sewing room is my cutting table my hubs made for me and my least favorite is that it is in the basement and often cold, not a ton of natural light and I am always in need of more space for fabrics and things!

Carol said...

I love the space of my quilting "studio", but I don't like the fact that it's my dining room! I really want a dedicated space for quilting and crafting.

Anonymous said...

Studio? ha. well, right now I use my coffee table to cut things and a folding television tray for my sewing machine. in the living room. amongst the toys for the 4 year old. So I would like a studio! But I would settle for a bigger coffee table!!! www.perrymoffitt.com

Tess said...

I tend to sew at the kitchen table, which has fabulous lighting. And chocolate lol. I would love a dedicated space of my own though.

If I had a free whish I would like to enlarge my studio from a shelf to a basement and add a longarm machine... One can dream. Thanks for the chance!

Peggy said...

If I had a studio, I'd like it to be huge. Right now I have a little bedroom I use for my crafting: cross stitching, sewing (reading and watching T.V.) among other things.
Thanks,

Studio?? work in progress... however, in the mean time I have commandeered the dining room! love the space.

Amanda said...

I love that I have a sewing room. I know I am lucky. I would be happy with some more table space, though! :)

Afton Warrick said...

I love my beautiful fabrics. I don't love that they are all over the place, so it's hard to find what I want.

Joy said...

My favorite part is the color - my favorite shade of blue. A change I'd like to make is to have built-in bookcases (never enough space!).

Swedish Scrapper said...

This sounds odd, but here goes: Fave part is the light and the view (farmland, a lake and some mountains) and my old desk that I use for the sewing machine. What I am trying to change is how hot the room gets whenever it is sunny. It can be snowing outside, but 30 C inside! Hubby put up some tinted film on the windows...If we owned the house, I'd have an adjustable awning installed!

aquay said...

I WISH I had a quilting studio. I sew on my dining room table.

Robin said...

My fave part is my machine! My least fave is the lighting but I'm working on that!

Tamie said...

I found a great sewing cabinet on Craigslist and it is wonderful. Thanks for participating in the Giveaway Day.

toffeepops said...

If I could change one thing, it would be to actually have a room, where I could leave my machine out, rather than the dining room table, where it has to be tidied away from...
Thanks for the chance!

Allison Sews said...

I love that my "studio" is in the living room so I can watch TV while I work but it would be so much nicer to have a whole room for sewing.

Amy's Crafty Shenanigans said...

I rent so I am unable to tear down any ways but boy oh boy I wish I could!! I can only baste small lap quilts so I would go for floor space if this was my house to renovate!

Tori said...

I wish I had a studio! Right now the only space big enough is our dining room table. Which means I have to get everything out and put it away again each and every time I sew. Hopefully I'll carve out my own space someday.

Kaitie Jayne said...

I am in the corner of our storage space so there's not much that I like about it! =) Maybe that I can escape from my kids so easily!

Unknown said...

I just love the fact that I have an entire room dedicated to sewing. It makes me VERY happy!

Weatherbee ;) said...

I love that I have a sewing room, and I love my giant Ikea sewing table. But my mismatched, not so organized storage is sometimes hard to make-do with. I try to be creative with it, but sometimes I wish I could just go out and spend $500 on matching storage bins and baskets!

Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

Quilting studio, that's a good one! My sewing machine is on the dining room table and my ironing board is in the living room! I dream of a quilting studio! Thanks for the generous prize!

Carla G said...

I love that I have a sewing/quilting area with a large L desk to put all my machines. And I have an awesome cutting table that hubby lifted up to my height. :)
I wish my room wasn't in the basement... And I hate my ironing board/lack of space for it... don't know what where to put it. :(

My design wall. Its a piece of rigid insulation with a big hunk of fabric that I rescued from somebodies trash glued to it. 4X8 foot and not big enough. Cindy bluemoonstencils@yahoo.com

Sarah Cld said...

I love all the surfaces I have (tables, chairs, etc.) for resting all my pieces, but I could definitely use more space!

ittehgaps said...

Favorite thing is the design wall I made with a 4x8 sheet of rigid insulation board and a hunk of fabric rescued from somebodies trash. Wish I had more than my 7x11 space crowded in my bedroom but I make it work. Over forty quilts in the last 2 yrs. Cindy bluemoonstencils@yahoo.com

Heidi said...

I love that I have a dedicated space for quilting, and it is a pretty big room with two machines set up and a walk-in for fabric. I would like to improve the efficiency as it is very hot in the summer!

Deb said...

Favorite part of my studio?? Well, I set up a Costco table in my living room and sew there. All has to be taken down if company is coming over. So...there's a fireplace in there. I guess that would be my favorite part! LOL!

Jayardi said...

• • • I love my design wall but wish it was bigger. Thank you for sharing!

camelama said...

I live in 400sq ft, so my "studio" is ... my studio! ;) I craft everywhere in my space. My favorite thing is that it means I can be flexible in what I do when ... I sometimes do some filling stitching embroidery when I can't sleep, to lull me into a calm and send me into zzzzzs.

Brooke @ little b quilts said...

Right now my quilting area is non-existent. We are moving into a new house in a few weeks and I finally get a dedicated sewing area. I have been planning and pinning ideas!

giddy99 said...

I have a sewing room, but it doesn't have a TV, so I end up sewing on a tiny table in the bedroom using an ironing board in the hallway. My hubs says we don't need another TV, but I think I've just realized that yes, we absolutely DO need another one. :)

My sewing room is our spare bedroom, which is turning into my sister's room when she moves in with us at the end of the Summer, so right now I'm enjoying the space, but soon I'll be back to sewing in my dining room in between meals. ;)

i like the table a lot. What i don't like is the lack of natural light. But we're moving house this summer, so we'll see what my sewing space will look like in the future....

What quilting studio? I have a small room where I sew and do other crafts and where our computer is located. But at least I am not limited to just a closet. :-)

What I would you change about my space if I could would be to make it larger with more shelves. My fabric is stashed in bins which I have to move around all the time as the fabric I want is never in the top bin. :-)

I have a beautiful view of the mountains from my sewing machine and my own room to sew in....I feel so lucky I don't even want to suggest a change !

I'm glad I have a space at all (walk-out basement) but I really would like to redo the whole thing now that I'm quilting more seriously - I'm tired of having to kneel on the floor to cut fabric!

My favorite space is the window sewing center, great light and views of the endless snow, oh right it's May, but still snow....

My husband took out the insides of the closet and built a sewing table and shelving. I love it because it frees up the rest of the room for my cutting table & main shelving units etc. The room is only 9x9!

Brenda said...

My favorite spot of my quilting space? My bookshelves. What I would change? More shelves and actually getting all of my quilt and fabric and craft and related books all in one place, along with a really comfy chair and a good light to read by.

Unknown said...

My favorite part is that I have an actual room in the basement where I can sew. I wish it had natural light though. Thanks for this giveaway.

Karrie said...

i love my set up. I have enough room. But what I would change is an upgrade on my sewing machine. Thanks! OR add more fabric to my (smallish) stach :)

Cecilia said...

I love that I have 2 rooms that are connected for my longarm and for my regular sewing machine and fabric. The only thing I would change is the carpet in my regular sewing room.

Tara G said...

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I love that I look directly out a window from my sewing machine. I wish that I had a completely dedicated room though--It is currently sharing space with our spare bedroom/ exercise room.....

Carmen N said...

Well, I just reorganized my craft room this week and added a couple of shelves. I really need a better way to store my thread though and put up some peg board for tools

Jayne said...

My favorite part of my sewing area...its at home. right smack in the center of all the fun, chaos and noise! I would change my chair! I work at my dining room table and seriously need a taller chair!

Texas Quilting Gal said...

My fav part is that I actually have my own room now! We just moved back to our house after some contract work had us living 1000 miles away in an apartment. We just painted it and it's allllll miiiiine! I'm still in the honeymoon phase, so there's nothing I don't like, yet. I guess my least fav part is I need more fabric?

brokenglass said...

I love that I have lots of natural light, but would love a "real" sewing table.

Miggsie said...

My peeve is that my stuff is split between two spaces - fabric and supplies are stored in a downstairs spare bedroom/office, while my machine, cutting board, iron, etc. is in the dining room upstairs - not ideal! Thanks for the giveaway!

Erin Marie said...

I like that it's a room and I can close the door and ignore the mess for awhile. I hate that it's so small, and I hate the layout right now. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out what will make it better. I have a few ideas, so I'm excited to try.

MamaBear said...

I would love to have a studio at all. Is that sad? Currently, I have a table covered in boxes taht my cats like to climb on. Whoops...

Kathy said...

"Studio" is a little too grandiose to describe my sewing area... but I like the natural light and the butcherboard countertops. And the fact that my family doesn't complain about the mess when it spills over into the family room.

Breanna S. said...

I am tucked into a corner of the dining room and although I wish that I had a large space all to myself I love that I am still with my family when I sew.

I love my studio. If I had to change it, I would pick it up and move it a little closer to "the action" in my house so I don't feel like such a recluse all the time.
