I do love a good teal fabric. I will likely always love a good teal fabric. But my stash is currently a bit teal heavy, so what better way to purge a few than to take part in Giveaway Day over at Sew Mama Sew!

You'll want to use more fabrics than just these in your quilt when you make it up, and you'll want to make it up because it is a fantastic block and pattern, but these will give you a nice start. See, I even mocked a block up, using the "planned scrappy" version, so you could see.

1 – 200 of 376 Newer› Newest»My worst quilt might be my first ... the batting is more appropriate for a sleeping bag - I tried sewing the edges like a pillowcase inside out then planned to turn it right side out and finish half the top by hand. But the fluff kept clogging up the feed dogs. So I brilliantly laid pieces of clear packing tape along the edges ... the thing did flow smoothly then over the feed dogs ... but the tape never would come off. To this day you can still hear the "crunching" of dried tape as you handle the edges.
I have been following you for a little over a year and have enjoyed getting to help you test run some patterns.
I've had plenty of finished quilts that I totally hated as well as unfinished ones- (including some Christmas blocks, ha ha) but the worst has to be an awful dark yellowy blue number. I gave it away for a raffle and was glad to see it go!
worst quilt would have to be the one that I made with blocks that I won at my guild. they ranged from the requested 12 1/2 inches down to 11 1/4 inches. It was real hard to put them together. The end result did look good though.

I always make a test block or two so that I can avoid those "worst quilts". Sadly, it doesn't always work. But I seldom finish them if they're really bad. I know I've worked on at least one project where I made a row or two and then threw it in the garbage it was so bad! Most of them though, just lurk around waiting to be turned from toads into princes -- probably not going to happen!
Oh, well hmm....I have one that I don't like. I tried a new quilting pattern one it. It was call dwirling. Let's just say I don't dwirl well. I can meander, I can loop, I can almost straight line, but I can not dwirl. On top of that it was one of my worst fabric picks of all times! I didn't realize how drab my fabrics choices looked until I took a picture and posted to my blog. Agh! I plan on giving it away at some point, surely there is someone who won't be a picky as me!
The worst quilt I ever made is also the best. I am just binding my very first quilt! It was very scary, but I did it! I learnt that there is a LOT to learn about quilts :)

My worst is a friendship quilt that a friend tried to organize for me. While the thot was great, only 14 of the 24 patches came back, and how does one make a decent quilt out of 14 patches that are made to set on point and most of which aren't square??! And then she sent the patches, "hoping I wouldn't mind putting the top together cause I like to sew anyway". Grrr. What a waste of time and fabric. My worst quilt (in my opinion), was one that I worked on at the last quilt retreat that I went to. I worked on it all weekend, then gave it to the quilt cupboard. It was the 10 minute block made out of oriental fabrics.

I have a quilt top that I made, and when it was done, just hated it and set it aside. Now, I need to find me some periwinkle solid fabric because I aim to cut up the quilt top into large squares, then slice and dice inserting strips of the solid and try to do something really artistic - here's hoping.
Im not even sure what to call the first quilt (and worst quilt) but I guess it's a patchwork.

My worst quilt is one I'm still trying to finish. I'm using fabric I don't like so it is taking me FOREVER to finish! Great blocks but I've learned . . . sew with fabric I love :-)!
Stars that puffed up in the center and didn't lay flat. Horrible, horrible.
The worst was made with donated polished cotton. I do NOT like polished cotton. It was very 80's.
My first quilt still isn't finished. I used a rainbow of thread to sew it together and in some places you can really tell! Oops!
My first quilt was too matchy matchy and I sewed it with 1/2" seams and thick batting! I follow you on Google!

i had a nine patch that was a nightmare quilt. i had a sewing machine that always went to 1/2 and if you forgot to change it everyrthing was off. i called it The quilt that almost ended it all becasue i was a new quilters and i just quit quilting for about 6 months becasue of this quilt.
Sometimes, a quilt has a moment during its creation when it is the worst quilt I ever made. Then something happens. The light changes, another square or part is added, someone likes it and worst turns awesome!
The worst quilt I ever made was a commissioned quilt...the person pre-cut all the fabrics into rough cut squares without washing them and then described a totally different quilt. Still to this day do not know why they cut the fabrics. I did what I could but so glad I don't have to look at it every day!!! After I sent it to them already quilted...they then embellished it!!!!
My worst quilt didn't make it to the 'quilting stage'..it's still a flimsy because I just don't like it and I'm not sure what it will ever become.
I once made a rag quilt using polar fleece. Yep. It's true. I know better now.

I finished up a quilt my sister started when she was like 8 or so. It had pink flame fabric and yellow flower fabric. It was odd.

My worst quilt is one I tried to handmake - it just did not come together well! and is still not finished... and probably never will be... ugh.
I have a quilt top folded up and sitting in my shelves that may never see the light again. And it's not really even because I hated it. It's because I had a comment from another quilter on IG who said it looked like "Mondrian Vomit"………sooooo, ummmmmm. Don't know what I will do with it!

My friend and I came across a horrible acid green fabric once and challenged each other to put it in a quilt. Neither one of us could successfully make that fabric work.
I'm working on my first quilt now and (thankfully) it hasn't been a horror story (at least not yet - knock on wood!).
Probably one of the first. It was wide strips of fabric and not much to it. Kinda bland Americana colors.
My worst project was adding pink stripes to a group round-robin quilt where it totally clashed. I'm still making up for it. The looks on their faces... :(
My worst quilt was one I made as a wedding present. It turned out to be beautiful but it wasn't my typical color palette and I had trouble forcing myself to work on it and therefor had to alter the pattern so that it would be done in time. She recipient claims they love it so alls well that ends well :)

i am a self taught quilter and my first quilt i made for my daughter was a mess. i tried the quilt as you go method and me being a dumb 16 year old and not not knowing anything about quilting, did not use batting. i used the poly fil that you put in stuffed toys, and i crammed them full. needless to say, i wound up throwing it in the trash. thank you for a great giveaway love the fabric and the pattern is to die for. babscorbitt@gmail.com

The worst quilt I ever made was a Christmas quilt. The fabrics were a little ugly. And my attempts at FMQ were also ugly. I used some wide backing fabric in red that attracted every piece of lint, every cat hair in the house. I gave it to my sister & I hope she made it into a dog bed (I've never asked). when I first started quilting, my daughter was spending her junior year in Germany. For Christmas she sent me a German quilting magazine. I loved a quilted named tomaten salat. it was in red orange and lime green. I was new to quilting, and my daughter who knew German very well was not familiar with quilting terms. Looking back I think it was some kind of slice and dice...but I diced when I should have sliced or something like that. I named the quilt "lost in translation" and donated it to an animal shelter
I once had a teacher who told us that the fabric would go together. It didn't. I don't remember the pattern but I do remember the browns, oranges and yellows.

Well, My favorite quilt is my worst quilt experience. It was a kit I purchased and had sitting around for 2 years. When I finally got around to making it, the instructions were so off...I was afraid of not being able to find the fabrics in the kit. I ended piecing some extra backgrounds pieces and it turned out fine.
You must have known I'd pop over here :). I just kind of follow you around. I've actually liked all my quilts but the one I liked making the least is a tie...first was my step-daughter's friendship star quilt. Holy cow that was a lot of HSTs...way too many. The second was some abbreviated churn dash I made for my great aunt. I didn't like the fabrics (because they were chosen for her) and the blocks went together weird, so it was hard for me to visualize. But, as I sewed that thing together, I grew to love it. And now, years after my great aunt passed away, I sleep with it :).

The "worst" quilt I ever made was a mystery quilt with badly chosen-by-me fabrics. The quilt made by the author was a high-contrast amish-style quilt ... at best, mine could be called a low-contrast water-color-style quilt.

The worst quilt I ever made was on my first. It was made with 2.5" squares in the shape of the snowman. There were triangles too. Anyway, most of the squares are off, so the snoman is crooked. I also made another quilt that was going great, until I got to the quilting part. I quilted it on my machine, and everything bunched up, so I had to take it all out. It was awful. I redid it and it ended up looking great!

My worst quilt was the second one I made. A flexible 1/4" seam, poor pressing and ignorant 'squaring' up led to pieces that never did play well together. Much was learned from that experience.

My worst quilt is still a top, I just haven't been able to quilt it. It was before I ever took a class and I used scissors. Not very well. I ended up with a near triangle quilt top. Pretty snazzy.
My worst quilt was a minky baby quilt and I didn't pin baste it.. Big mistake I had to rip the entire thing out and redo it...What a flipping, ripping, picking mess that was.

Mine is the first one I made, I gave it to my mom and she put it on the kitchen table (under the glass). Whenever I sit at that table, I just end up critiquing it the whole time.
I can't believe you're making me relive those horrible moments. It's not so much the quilt tops but the quilting. I made a full size round the world pattern and FMQed on my Bernina. I did a sun burst pattern from the middle and when I finished the whole quilt I saw how I had pulled the middle so much that it wouldn't lie flat. It was just a mess. I made it for my nephew, on a deadline so it had to be given to him but I hated to. Luckily, he's single and a guy so maybe no one else notices how crappy it is. Thanks.

My last quilt was a hot mess. I used leftover triangles from an old project but forgot that they were different sizes. My mom is a saint and quilted it flat so it can still be the baby blanket I intended!

The worst quilt I ever made was a wedding quilt for my nephew which was designed by his fiance. She was a tad on the gothic side and I hated the design. The quilt turned out ok which is more than I can say for their marriage!

I have been working on one quilt since 2007. I began quilting it in 2008 and last week as I was just finishing the hand quilting realized that I did a terrible job on the back and the corners... 5 years ago. Hmmph. But thank you for the entry! My worst would have to be my first. It's a chevron pattern and many of the points got cut off plus my stitching in the ditch left a lot to be desired.
I'm sure I'll have one someday, but for now I've only made two. I love them very much!
Worst quilt I ever made ...a few. Well they weren't the "worst" in style, but making them made me want to start drinking! One was just last week when I made a christmas quilt. I HATED making it! I dont' know why, I just did! It turned out nice, but I gues I am not in the christmas spirit so that stumbled me. I did another one last year of chevrons made out of HST's..turned out nice but then i started FMQ'ing it and chose a really stupid way to do it which took ton of time and effort... and it is still sitting in the closet barely half done!

I'm not sure it even counts as "making," but I've got a quilt sitting in bits on my sewing table that I've been working on since sophomore year of college. That's my biggest failure, but I also had some fun making quilted potholders for a friend--which I finished on the car ride to her bridal shower!
I made an absolutely HORRID baby quilt. I hated it from the moment I pieced the top but for some reason still finished it. I still have it. I ended up buying a panel and making a quick quilt because I wasted so much time on the ugly one. I am not sure why I haven't donated it..maybe because I think it is to ugly!

I am a newbie so there are not many bad quilts on my shelf. I tried to do FMQ on my first and that was a mistare! I unpicked all the stitches and went to straight stitching!

My worst quilt was my first quilt. It was many years ago when it was cool to have orange shag carpeting in your home - bet some of your readers don't remember that - too young. Anyway, the quilt was grass green and orange, orange!

wow. just wow. I read some of people's worst stories and I feel blessed. *crosses fingers* So far so good. I am on my 3rd quilt. The first is finished. I got the points to match, the fabric to look good and it hand quilted in a month. Arrived JUST before the mother to be went to the hospital to have my new niece.
the second is an applique quilt and the 3rd is bed size. Both are WIP's and part UFO due to college classes. (but then it takes me a long time pick fabrics and cut anything due to a high level of perfectionism and pickyness)(oh, and I spent a year doing research on quilting to avoid making as many mistakes as possible)
My worst quilt is in a landfill somewhere. The colors didn't play well together like I thought they would and I couldn't get it to square up, I got really frustrated, wadded it up and in the trash.

It might be the one I'm working on now. I'll know when I've washed it. I bought some of the fabric on holiday because the colours just matched so beautifully. Then when I ironed a block it scorched. I'm thinking the fabric isn't cotton like they said in the shop. I'd made all my blocks by the time I realised. Fingers crossed it washes ok and next time I'll stick to buying fabric from shops I know and trust.

Worst quilt I ever made? Possibly the postage stamp quilt top I pieced like 3 years ago and have yet to quilt. I used all scrap stash and thought it would be great because it'd be like the quilts my Grandmas made but in the end it just looks like a hot mess of unmatched fabrics and my seams don't all match up so it's ugly too. boo. I'm hoping one day to get back to it and quilt the mess out of it and hope that helps and then just put it in my car as a throw-around quilt to use for picnics, game blankets, etc...

It would be a flannel log-cabin quilt which I made with a sewing machine which wasn't working correctly and my seams were terrible and it was falling apart as I sewed it.
Well, I've made some doozies over the years, but the one I disliked the most was one I sent out to be quilted when machine quilting was just coming into vogue. It was a terrible job and it took me a long time to embrace quilting by machine after that. Now its all I do!
My 1st in my teens... a log cabin cut from pattern tissue. Of course everything went together wonkily after endless tedious cutting and I gave up. My mom finished it later and I swore off quilting until the rotary cutter came along!

Just recently I was making a quilt for my cousin who turned 50 and the pattern I started was a scrappy herringbone, well it was crappy and I ditched that plan... nothing could save it or make it better! Luckily I found a much better pattern and made it in record time!!

Worst Quilt Ever = I prewashed a cotton batting because I hate shrinkage. The batting bunched, spread out out into horrible gaps and was 'off kilter.' I tried to salvage it by smushing it bakc into shape and hand basting the mess together. I should have tossed it but I was too frugle. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com

I haven't done many quilts, so i guess the worst is my first that i did by myself - not enough attention to detail & being precise, but at some point i just gave up & finished it, even if it wasn't very pretty.
My first quilt I had no clue what I was doing so none of my seams were 1/4 or even an even amount so you can imagine what a disaster it turned out to be
The worst quilt I made is probably my first one. I love it and use it all the time, but the binding is pretty atrocious! The corners are bad and I tucked one end of the binding into the other to finish...and didn't even do a good job of it LOL!

A floral BOM - I don't like the fabrics in it.
I think the worst one I made was a Jack in the Beanstalk blanket for my cousin's son. I sewed the back to the top and left an edge to turn it right side out, and then sewed all the edges closed. Then I tried to "quilt" it. After unpicking all my stitching, I tied it. Fortunately, they use it as a wall hanging. Someday I might redo it just for my satisfaction.
Umm I made my OH a quilt using a sort of railroad pattern. Then I discovered (after it was all made) it looked like I'd made swastikas!!! It's on my blog in the finished quilt section, it's also known as the ugly quilt.

My worst quilt was never finished. It was full of bias edges and stretch unmercifully.
I was at Joann's and picked up their block of the month years ago. The fabric was cheap and the pattern had a lot of circle appliques that I did not have any experience with. I still have the quilt but I am sure it will fall apart soon because the fabric was awful. Learned a lot making it tho.

My worst quilts (yes there are more than one) have never been finished. Most came from quilt classes that I just didn't like and one is the result of a block exchange. As someone else commenyed, none of the blocks were the same size and I just put them in a plastic tub with all the other UFOs.

My problem isn't an actual worst quilt, it's the little critic in my head that tells me it's the worst quilt. I've tried to tame that monster. Back in the 70's I almost finished a quilt for my first child. It was cute with clowns and bright colors. Most of the fabric was a poly cotton blend because that was all I could find. I put a lot on hand embroidery in it too. The critical voice in my head told me it wasn't good enough or perfect enough so I stopped and eventually THREW IT OUT! I've never done that again. In hindsight the quilt was fine, a first attempt at quilting for my beloved baby. With every quilt I grow and now I accept little errors as part of the charm.

I hate when i love fabrics when i buy them and hate them when i pair them up. I don't think that will happen here!
I've only had a couple of quilts that I did not like. Most of the time it was from donated fabric. So they have gone to charity.
I have actually never made a quilt! I love to sew, and I love fabrics.

My worst is my very first-- a brick path pattern with so little color variation between prints.. it's just BORING.
My least favourite quilt is a Hunter Star that I made from batiks (I don't like batiks). I was in a class and the layout was a nightmare. Eventually I chose a barnraising setting that only gives you ONE star. I was amazed when my DD asked for it!

the worst quilt I ever made is the one still on my bed, my first quilt and I didn't understand about matching seams or keeping points, but it still keeps us warm every night
worst quilt is still in the closet - my second one ever pieced and I had no idea how to work with triangles. Everything is eased everywhere on that thing.
Once I got hooked...after my first quilt. I decided I could do this. I picked a pattern and it turned out hideous! from the fabric, deign and execution! It hit the garbage...really!
I've been working on a quilt for my Gran for 6 years now. I should give-up and start over...I don't like the fabric anymore. It is a sampler that I started in my first quilting class.
You know, I don't have any regrets about any of the quilts I've made, even though none of them are perfect. I figure they keep people warm, look reasonably pretty most of the time, and if all else fails, they can get donated to a homeless shelter and have a second lease on life.
The worst quilt I ever finished was my first full sized quilt (as opposed to baby quilt). Not that I don't love it but I look at the uneven stitches and totally wonky quilting lines now and just shake my head. :)
I have only made one quilt so far. It has its problems. I have learned a ton from making this quilt. Hopefully my next one will be a ton better.

The 1st quilt I ever made was the worst. When I washed it all the colors faded! I could have took the cutter to it. I was so discouraged! I found that all fabrics are not equal and thank goodness I didn't just quit right then!
I made a bay quilt that wasn't square and I kept trimming and trimming. By the time I stopped it was a large pot holder!!!
The first was the worse, not so much in the construction, but in the colors, it really didn't occur to me that I could make it with whatever colors I wanted. Pink and purple, not my fave.

I made a hexi quilt, all hand stitched. Not only was it too much work, I hate the way it turned out. No more hexis!

My worst quilt is usually the one I am currently working on. I tend to get sick of a quick half way through piecing it and then I start something new. Eventually I find the original quilt again and decide that it is not that bad after all and then I finish it.
I guess my worst would be the "Turning Twenty" but I just turned 12 and cut some of the fabric wrong and pieced it back together. It was one of my first projects.

Worst quilt ever: first. Points didn't make, quilting was deplorable. But my son still sleeps with it every night. :)
Well, I'm currently finishing my first real quilt, and so far I love it. The binding is a little scary though. I made some potholders first to "practice with and I ended up putting half my hangers on the bottom so some of the prints are upside down! Duh!!! Really hoping I don't do something stupid like that with my quilt.

it was a jelly roll quilt *shudders* I had jsut caught the quilting bug and was practically drooling over fabric and dreaming of the next bit that I could get my hands on..so when it showed up at my house.. within ten minutes I had that thing opened and had already started cutting into it.. well I shouldn't have.. no pattern, no direction, new to quilting..it was a disaster.. the squares were all wonky the pattern did look right for the fabric.. it was bad.

I was given some blocks from a lady that had passed away and they were UGLY. I have to get up the courage to finish and donate the project.
My worse was a queen size bed quilt made totally out of half square triangles. It was my first quilt; I didn't even know what a rotary cutter was and a 1/4 inch seam what also unknown. But my daughter just loved it.
My worst quilt was also my first. Way too complicated. Didnt cut the fabric properly norreally used a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
I am embarrassed to say this but I started a quilt about 5 years ago and am yet working on it
My first, the seams don't match and the fmq is a hot mess.
Now I've only made 2 quilts and the latest one, I'm in love with. So I'll go with my first. Not a single point matches. It has puckers galore. The quilting is wonky.
is that bad enough?
I have yet to make my first quilt!! I sew, but a quilt is intimidating to me...
